Position Overview: CMI is beginning an exciting new phase of expansion and looking for a hands-on tool room and machine shop manager. You will report directly to the COO and CTO but also work closely with the engineering team and production teams. You are expected to keep pace with the latest technologies and materials available in the field of high reliability motors and drivers and contribute significantly to the overall strategic direction of the company. This position has high growth potential based on performance. The preferred candidate will have a history of machine shop and tool room experience as well as experience scheduling tool rooms and machine shops and managing employees.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Proficient in scheduling tool room and machine shop jobs via Excel or other computer-based software; including managing workflow and maximizing efficiency by directing jobs to the most qualified person
  • Managing daily operations of machine shop and tool room
  • Able to prioritize jobs based on engineering teams needs and customer needs
  • Communicate with CTO, COO and engineering team on project status and key issues
  • Review blueprints and technical drawings
  • Experience with tool making and manual machining
  • Ability to perform quality inspections on raw materials and machined parts

Expected Skills Required:

  • Proven success in machine shop and tool room
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001-2015
  • Be able to think out of the box to develop effective solutions to scheduling issues
  • Stay current with leading edge materials and machines
  • Participate in cross functional continuous improvement activities focused on quality, manufacturability, cost reduction, lead time reduction, and product aesthetics
  • Work to improve response time to customers, proposal thoroughness, and cost estimate accuracy
  • Collaborate to advance and diversify the overall process and design capabilities of the company

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years tool room/machine shop management
  • Technical expertise in tool design and making and manual machining
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with DFM techniques and review
  • Excellent computer skills, especially with Excel and other scheduling software
  • Utilization of Microsoft Office Suite products
